Casualty and Emergency Services
The Hospital for Tropical Diseases is unable to give telephone advice to members of the general public.
Travellers who have returned from the tropics and are unwell, with fever or bloody diarrhoea, can attend the walk-in emergency clinic at the Hospital without an appointment or referral.
For other problems please see your local doctor, who will refer you to the Hospital if appropriate.
The investigation and treatment of notifiable infectious diseases is provide free under the NHS, including overseas travellers, this includes Malaria, TB and Dysentery.
We are unable to arrange outpatient appointments directly over the telephone, however, urgent appointments can be arranged by your doctor. Those who do not have a general practitioner can register with a GP, as a temporary patient. If you live a long way from the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, you should attend your nearest Accident & Emergency Department without an appointment.
The Hospital for Tropical Diseases emergency clinic is open between 9 am and 4.00 pm Monday to Friday.
If you need to attend our emergency clinic out of working hours you should go to the Accident & Emergency Department at University College Hospital, on the corner of Euston Road and Gower Street.
The nearest tube stations are: Euston, Euston Square, Warren Street and Goodge Street.
